Maisha number is a new digital identifier that is set to replace the analogue national identity card typically from birth. Unlike the analogue Identity number, Maisha Number will be a universal number that will be issued at birth and will serve as a birth certificate number, KRA pin, I’D number, NHIF and NSSF number.
Maisha Number will enable citizens access to all government services with just one card.
First time ID applicants and replacements will now be issued with Maisha Cards as the Government begins the piloting of the Kenya’s digital ID popular Maisha Number.
Speaking during the briefing session on digital IDs in Nairobi, The Immigration and Citizen services Principal Secretary Professor Julius Bitok announced that all first time ID applicants will be served with the Maisha Number Digital ID card. This will also affect those who will apply for the replacement during this piloting period.
