HON MANDAGO AND TWO OTHERS BEHIND BARS FOR ALLEGEDLY SQUANDERING FINLAND, CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDS
Uasin-Gishu Senator Hon Jackson Mandago spent the night in custody after being arrested by detectives over the Finland scholarship scandal.
The senator was arrested alongside two top county officials, Joshua Lelei and Mishack Rono, over the scam. This is where parents lost over Sh800 million. A fourth suspect, Joseph Maritim, is believed to have sneaked out of the country at the height of the investigation.
Earlier, the three had failed to appear in court to face charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, abuse of office among other charges, prompting a warrant of arrest to be issued for their immediate arrest.
Sleuths from the Financial Investigations Unit launched a manhunt for the three who engaged them in cat and mouse games, before the suspects opted to surrender when they ran out of ideas.
The three are being held at Nakuru Central police station pending arraignment in court tomorrow morning.
