When is Jamhuri Day Celebrated
Jamhuri Day (Republic Day) is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on 12 December each year. Jamhuri is the Swahili word for “republic” and the holiday is meant to officially mark the date when Kenya became a republic on 12 December 1964.

The National Celebrations Committee led by Dr. Hon Karanja Kibicho toured Nyayo Stadium where minor infrastructural works are ongoing ahead of Jamhuri Day celebrations on Dec. 12th. Attendance will be by invite-only, and the team is keen on making it as representative as possible.

As we wait for a time when we will again celebrate our national holidays the traditional way, the COVID-19 containment measures must prevail over other interests even during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Nyayo National Stadium.
“We have begun readying Nyayo National Stadium for Jamhuri Day celebrations on Saturday, December 12. The technical team will remain on the ground to hone in on even the minutest of details in preparation for the day owing to its significance on Kenya’s history calendar.” He said
