Rains pour Overnight after drought bites the western part of Kenya

Weatherman predicts continued rainfall after the region end a long-term drought bite. 2022, April 12th has come with overnight blessing.

The region today experienced heavy rains accompanied by thunder storm. This has been the most awaited rains for the 2022 planting season.

Planting Season

In Western region and Rift Valley, planting of maize takes place majorly in March and April. The major worry about the late rains is delayed harvesting time that could result to food shortage among the residents.

Weather Changes in Kenya

From the KENYA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT forecast,

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift
Valley (Kisii, Nyamira, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet,
Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West-Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Baringo,
Nakuru, Narok and Laikipia Counties):

 Occasional morning rains are likely to occur over few places. Afternoon and night showers  
and thunderstorms are expected over few places occasionally spreading to several places.
Maximum (day-time) temperatures are likely to range from 26oC to 32oC while minimum
(night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 09oC and 20oC.
