NTV has faced it rough after posting about BRT buses charges. From their statement BRT buses to charge Sh150 per trip in pilot phase. This means the Passengers will be required to pay a flat rate Transport fee of Ksh 150 for the Bus rapid transport. This is expected to be launched in June along Thika road to decongest the city.
Hon Charles Hinga has distanced himself from the headline claiming it is misleading. From the replies on the official NTV twitter page post Charles Hinga defends himself saying they spoke of fares for those on
- Social protection (indigent),
- School children, peak, off peak fares.
According to Jinga Sh150 is the highest fare bracket for those who can afford it. This will help in developing the quality service in the sector. He couldn’t hold it back urging authors to make use of quality headlines.
Who Congested Thika Road?
On the issue of Road congestion, Ps Charles Hinga says the people who congest the roads are those with private cars but hey spend more than Sh150 in their private cars to make their journeys.
“We are not trying to take passengers from matatus. We are providing choice.”
Is the Gov’ Making Profit?
On the issue of Government business and Profit Hon Charles Hinga Mwaura stated with a harsh note that the Government is making Zero (0) Profit. “There is no profit GoK is making here, but there is a price to pay for the high quality of life we aspire for.”
He says those who are able to pay Sh150 will do so by paying but those in vulnerable groups will be taken care of since matatus will also operate just like private vehicles.
