President Ruto Commissions Sh 8.2 Billion Thiba Dam In Kirinyaga

Thiba Dam Project in Rukenya, Kirinyaga County

15th October 2022 – Saturday, President William Samoei Ruto commissions a Sh 8.2 Billion Thiba Dam Project in Rukenya Kirinyaga County. The project is aimed to help increase food production as well as its value from Sh 10 billion to Sh 18 billion.

According to president, his government will invest in construction and expansion of dams which will lead to sustainable irrigation system. This will rebuild agriculture in the country.

“Thiba Dam holds huge potential to tackle food crisis as it diminishes our dependence on rain-fed agriculture. More food production will mean more earnings for our farmers and more jobs for our youth. That is our focus.”

Speaking to the guests President Ruto disclosed that not only promoting food production, Thiba dam will also help in job creation approximately 50.000 jobs per year.

“In Kirinyaga County, commissioned Thiba Dam, a Sh8.2 billion project that will help increase value of food production from Sh10 billion to Sh18 billion, creating more than 50,000 jobs a year.”

1. Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was also present.

He used the platform to answer Azimio presidential candidate on the issue high cost of living. According to him, Raila Odinga gave a blind eye on the President Kenyatta’s leadership hence hight cost of living.

Mr Gachagua together with President Ruto made this reply after Hon. Raila held a Bunge la Mwananchi at Jevanjee gardens in Nairobi.

2. Governor Anne Waiguru

Governor Anne Waiguru who welcomed the president and his deputy expressed her gratitude indicating that the project will grow acreage from 25k to 35K.

“Welcomed President Williams Ruto & DP Rigathi Gachagua to Kirinyaga for official commissioning of Thiba dam. We celebrate this completion. Mwea rice farmers will increase acreage from 25k to 35K, double their annual production & earnings as we narrow the rice supply gap in Kenya. #BottomUp.”

Where is Thiba dam Located?

The Rukenya Dam, also known as Thiba Dam is located Rukenya, Kirinyaga County, Kenya. It is build 40 Meters high and 1 Kilometer wide. The reservoir occupies 542 acres of land with a of capacity of 15 million cubic meters.
